Maureen Golgata / b. Framingham Massachusetts / American visual artist / Living and working in Naples, Florida
Maureen Golgata is an abstract painter whose work questions what it is to be human, and our role in the natural world. Led by our fragility, she explores the complex interaction between marked shifts in cultural temperature and the dichotomous essence of our existence. Her fluid gestural expressions search for what connects us beyond spoken words. Through mining intimate and vulnerable emotions, memories, and rites of passage, she delves into our inner selves. Fascinated with the ability light and color possess to evoke memories, Golgata turns to raw color and a limited palette to depict her interpretation of the vibrancy and truth of our surroundings. Her rhythmic and turbulent expressions are imbued with a dialogue between emergence and disappearance, where intricate interplays of saturated color and contrasting value relationships echo nuanced reflections of the complexities of the modern landscape. Countless iterations of gestural drawing and densely layered paint application evoke a dreamlike quality motioning to the impermanence of memory, and its influence on man's coexistence and nature in a rapidly changing environment.
Captivated by the human psyche and how we shape our lives, Golgata uses acrylic, oil, and mixed media elements to develop an immersive body of work that navigates between chaos and harmony. Her technical groundwork developed under Master Painter Paul Ingbretson at his Manchester, New Hampshire Atelier, follows the teachings of The Boston School Painters, whose roots date back to 19th century Paris. In addition to classical training, her academic work includes a BA in Studio Art from Framingham University, Massachusetts, and further exploration of color and design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.
She exhibits her work internationally and nationally, where she was featured during Art Basel week, Miami with Cube Art Fair, Red Dot Miami and Archive 7 Her works can also be found in private collections throughout United States and Europe.
